I am a self-taught painter and Washington DC native who proudly lives and works here.

My work has been shown across the DC area, in New York City, and in Asheville (NC). My commissioned works hang at homes in seven states and counting, as well as restaurants and businesses in Washington DC. Always interested in conversations about studio/site visits, commissions, and other assorted inquiries.

STATEMENT

Patrick McMahon is a self-taught painter who lives and works in Washington DC. A former graffiti writer, he was compelled to explore the surfaces underneath it and the hidden places where it happens — synthesizing exposure, erosion, and similar tensions in our walled environments into a layered post-graffiti visual language that defines the appearance of his work. McMahon’s works evoke distance and memory, often confronting the passage of time itself.

His approach incorporates a mix of learned and traditional art techniques, adapted for the respective speed and material demands of aerosol paint, watercolor, and ink.
